The day after Charles Henderson announced the hire of Mike Dean as its new head football coach, offensive coordinator Brad Rhodes accepted the head coaching position at Monroe County High School.

Rhodes, who has served as offensive coordinator since 2007, was a safety for the Trojans in the late 1990s and as been a member of the coaching staff for 11 years.

The Troy University graduate, who will also serve as Monroe County’s athletic director,  is looking forward to the opportunity of becoming a head coach.

“There are always challenges in becoming a head coach for the first time,” Rhodes said. “My main goal is to motivate the kids to be hungry and successful.”

Rhodes said he felt the time was right to take the next step in his coaching career.

“I’ve always wanted to be a head coach. That’s why I got into coaching,” he said. “The opportunity became available and it worked out for me.”

Monore’s County newest head coach will have his work cut out for him. The Tigers are a combined 25-77 over the past decade and have reached the playoffs just once.

“I think Monroe County has a lot of hidden potential,” Rhodes said. “They’ve had some tough times but I think can do some special things.”
