The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans opened its season against Geneva County on Tuesday night, losing 55-34.

Mary Neal and Gwen Anderson each scored 17 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs and Elsie Williams added 16.

"We played them last season and they had almost everyone back for this year," said CHHS head coach Dyneshia Jones. "But we lost four seniors, including three starters, from our team last year. It’s kind of rough with this being our first game at home."

In Anderson and Williams, the Lady Bulldogs had a sizeable height advantage over CHHS, but Jones says that’s been the case as long as she’s been head coach.

"Just about every team we’ve played since I’ve been here has

been taller then us," she said.

The Lady Trojans opened with two quick baskets from Mary Gilbert and Annie Daniels, but Geneva County came back to run off 10 straight points and claim the lead. Ashley Byrd halted the run briefly with a basket, but Williams responded with an outside jumper and a foul shot.

Geneva County led 14-9 at the end of the first.

The Lady Bulldogs used a 15-5 run to take control of the game at the half, as the visitors went to the locker room

leading 29-14. CHHS’s last score came at the 2:19 mark with Makelia Wingard completing a three-point play at the foul line.

Geneva County responded with a three-pointer by Williams and five straight points from Neal.

Wingard led the Lady Trojans with 10 points, while Daniels scored eight points.
