Recycling in Troy could pay out in big dividends.

Leading up to American Recycling Day, which is Nov. 15, the Troy Recycling Center is offering the chance to win on the local, state and national level.

Bill Rice Sr., recycling coordinator for Troy, said the city "is a great recycling town," and hopes those efforts are rewarded.

Troy’s recycling program began in1991 and many residents, businesses and industries participate in it.

And, of those who put out the blue bags, someone will win a $500 bond and, possibly, a house.

At this time, anyone who picks up blue bags at Troy City Hall or the Troy Public Library will be given the chance to register for prizes, Rice said.

On Nov. 2, three names will be drawn from those cards. The lawn of the first name drawn will be checked the following recycling pickup day.

"If they have the blue bags out on the next pickup day, they will get a $500 bond," Rice said.

All the cards here will be put into the state drawing, which will be Nov. 20 and in the national drawing for a house in December.

"They have a better chance of winning that (the house) than the lottery," Rice said.
