One could compare Pike Liberal Arts schedule to a "murderer’s row."

But that wouldn’t do it justice.

Following last week’s pounding at the hands of the AISA’s second-ranked team, Monroe County, the Patriots must take to the road this week and head to Phenix City, where they’ll face the No. 1 team in the state; the Glenwood Gators.

Glenwood has clearly been the class of AAA football this year,hammering opponents into submission – at many times -before the halftime break. Like temperatures in your average winter’s day, Glenwood’s scores this season have hovered in the mid-50s.

"There are a lot of seniors on Monroe’s team that might help them make it to the finals," said PLAS head coach Mack Williams. "But I was talking to a guy the other day that said the (Chris) Jackson kid at Glenwood could smoke some two of Monroe’s fastest players. I told him that made me feel a lot better."

Six games into the season, Glenwood’s Jackson has already rushed for 1,352 yards on 83 carries.

However, most of that yardage has come against a lesser caliber of competition then what the Patriots have faced. PLAS has already played three teams that are, or have been, ranked in the AISA top ten.

"We’ve challenged are players for this game," said Williams. "Plus, I don’t know what we’d do without the support from the parents and the fans. They’ve been great. We just have to keep pushing that winning attitude."
