DOTHAN – In a must-win situation Troy was able to beat Dothan 5-1 on Friday night and stay alive in the Dixie Angels District Tournament.
Troy dropped Thursday night’s first round game of the double-elimination tournament, 3-1 to Enterprise.
Troy was finally able to break through on the scoreboard in the third inning against Dothan, aided by Jodi Long who drove in two runners with a basehit, as Troy took a 3-0 lead. Dothan scored their only run in the fourth, but Julie Money doubled for Troy in the fourth and sent two runners home to seal the game.
Despite Friday’s win, head coach Kenneth Carter was not happy with his team’s hitting.
"We haven’t been hitting the ball well at all during this tournament. We’ve had just six total hits in two games," he said. "Everything else is there…our pitching and our defense. We’ve just got to start hitting the ball."
Bobbi Jo Strother closed the game for Troy on the mound.
Against Enterprise on Thursday, Troy equalled the winning team’s hitting performance (four hits each), but were unable to equal their run total in the 3-1 loss.
The game went into an extra inning, with Enterprise’s Katie Greathouse sending two runners home. Troy had the bases loaded at one point during the game with no outs, but were unable to score any runs.
Greathouse led Enterprise’s effort with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate. Mercedes Sanders also had a hit.
Troy was led by Courtney Kelly’s 2-for-2 with Long and Erica Henderson each adding a hit as well.
