Brundidge Country Club hosts Junior Golf Tournament

The Brundidge Junior Golf Tournament was held June 6 at the Brundidge Country Club.

Seven young golfers from ages 7 – 15 participated in this year’s tournament, which has been an annual event at the Brundidge Country Club for 21 years.

Trey Majors of Luverne placed first in the 15-year-old division, and was the tournament’s overall winner, shooting 84.

"It was rough out there today," Majors said. "I don’t feel like I played my best."

Allan Brown of Newton placed second in the 15-year-old division, shooting 87. Brown agreed it was a rough day out on the green.

"It was horrible," Brown said. "We were both way off on putting."

Both Brown and Majors said they had a close match during the tournament. Majors plays golf for Crenshaw Christian Academy, and Brown will be starting the golf team next year at Daleville High School.

Taylor Tew placed first in the 7-year-old division with a score of 59. Thomas Lydic came in second shooting a 64. Nick Weeks came in first in the 10-year-old division shooting a 42.

The 10 and under group all played nine holes while the 11 and up played a full 18.

Cole Mitchell came in first in the 11-year-old division with a 105 and Justin Anderson came in first in the 13-year-old division with an 87.

Ginger Rodgers of the Brundidge Country Club was volunteering at the tournament. She said she felt it was a good day of golfing for the up-and-coming golfers.

"The weather was nice and the balls flew good, there was a lot of good golfing going on," Rodgers said.
