Mountain biking will be featured in Alabama Olympics

The 2001 Alabama Sports Festival (ASF) XIX State Games invites mountain bikers of all ages to join in the fun at Alabama’s Olympics!

This year’s Games will be held June 28 – July 1, in Mobile. The mountain biking competition in the 2001 A SF State Games, will include divisions for beginner, sport and expert levels, and competition is open to both men and women. Age divisions will begin at 14 and under up to 40 and over. This competition will be held Sunday, July 1, at Chickasasbogue Park in Mobile.

The beginner division will complete two short course laps (9 miles). The sport category will complete two long course laps (18 miles), the expert division will complete three long course laps (27 miles). All National Off Road Bicycle Association (NORBA) rules apply. Competitors that do not hold a NORBA license, will be required to purchase a one-day license for the event. The cost of this license will be $5. All competitors will be required to wear a helmet. The A SF, a non-profit organization, was started at the request of the United States Olympic Committee in 1982. The A SF hosts quality, Olympic-style, statewide, amateur, athletic competitions and instills the importance of academics and good citizenship skills in the youth of Alabama.
