Pike County has been participating in the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life for the past seven years.

Last year, the Pike County Relay For Life raised $152,914 for the fight against cancer. This year’s goal is $150,000.

Judy Stephens has been very active in the fight against cancer.

"Yes, I have contributed to Relay for Life," said Stephens. "Everything we’ve had in the city I’ve participated in. Cancer has affected my life very much. Anytime it strikes home it brings it home to you. If it hits you it affects everyone in the family."

Amy Baker has also been very active in supporting Relay for Life.

"I’ve been active in Relay for Life for about 5 years or so now," said Baker. "I’ve had three family members to die in the past three years from cancer-two uncles and one aunt. It’s tough to see someone you love suffer from cancer, especially in the last days. It’s something you wouldn’t wish on anybody. I hope they find a cure soon."

Emily Head thinks Relay for Life is great for the community.

"I’ve lost several friends and family members to cancer and I have some that are survivors," said Head. "I think Relay for Life is wonderful. You get to honor the survivors and remember the ones that lost the battle. The whole community comes together to help out and work on it."

Vickie Wilson encourages everyone to participate in Relay for Life.

"Cancer is a big problem in my life because my grandmother has died from cancer," said Wilson. "I never took it seriously until it affected our family. Relay for Life is a very good cause and everyone should participate in it. It is very special and it brings people together. I met people that I didn’t even know had cancer."
