After coming into last weekend’s action struggling with a 1-11 record, the Pike County High School slow pitch softball team is getting hot at just the right time heading into the final two weeks of the regular season.

The Lady Bulldogs have won five of their last six games as they improved to 6-12 with nine games remaining in the season. After sweeping Zion Chapel (13-2, 13-3) on the road last week, Pike County claimed back to back single game wins over Georgiana, including a 17-6 road

verdict over the Lady Panthers Monday afternoon. Wennica Foster and Amanda Garrett each had three hits while Ashley Maulden collected two hits to lead the Lady Bulldogs. Foster, Maulden and Garrett combined for 11 RBIs in the winning effort.

On Tuesday afternoon, Pike County split two games with Ariton winning the first game 11-1 while losing the nightcap 13-9. In Game 1 against the Lady Purple Cats, Shannon Diggs went 4-for-4 and drove in six runs while Maulden and Garrett each had two hits. Stephanie Oliver had two hits for Ariton in the opener.

However, the Lady Bulldogs saw their five game winning streak losing by four runs to Ariton in the second game. Hope Harden led the Lady Wildcats going 4-for-4 at the plate. Foster and Diggs each had two hits for the Lady Bulldogs in a losing cause.

Pike County returns to action this Friday afternoon when they travel to Union Springs to face Bullock County. The first pitch is set for 4 p.m.
