Anyone looking for some entertainment or something to cure that crave for sweets can do so and help raise money for the March of Dimes.
Today, there are several fund-raising events around town.
From 8 a.m. until everything is sold, Charles Henderson Child Health Center will have a bake sale and silent auction with the proceeds going to clinic’s WalkAmerica team funds.
At noon, Edge Regional Medical Center will be the site of a "fashion show."
Celebrities from Pike County will don some interesting outfits.
Prizes will be given to the person with the most creative outfit and the individual who brings in the most money.
Hospital officials and Dianne Smith, chairwoman of the Pike County WalkAmerica, encourage everyone to come out and see the latest and possibly the most absurd fashions.
Smith reminds those who do attend to bring plenty of cash for that favorite contestant.
Then, tonight, as part of Troy State University’s St. Patrick’s week-long celebration, a talent show will be held with proceeds going to the March of Dimes.
The show will begin at 7 p.m. in the Adams Center Theater on the TSU campus. Contestants will pay $10 to compete. Admission is by donation.
In addition to all the fund raisers going on today, pennants featuring the March of Dimes logo, are being sold and will be displayed along the walk route on March 31. Pennants are pink for girls, blue for boys, white for memorials and yellow for expecting parents.
The pennants are $5 each and can be purchased by calling Smith at 566-9575 or 566-2821.
Plus, area schools will wind up their coin card collections this week, Smith said.
With the walk just over two weeks away, teams are working to raise those last dollars and the fund-raising efforts are going well, Smith said, adding the goal for WalkAmerica 2001 was to raise $45,000.
"We hope for a good turnout that day and good weather," she said.
