As of Wednesday morning, drivers on South Brundidge Street will begin to see detour signs and be rerouted as Troy’s road widening and sidewalk project for the street begins.

“Crews are going to start working backwards from University Avenue to Center Street because we don’t want to keep that portion closed for long,” said Mike Davis, the city’s Water and Sewer Superintendent.

The section of the road from University Avenue to Center Street will be closed for through traffic for about three days. Businesses in that area have been notified, Davis said, and understand workers will complete their job there as soon as possible.

Then work will begin between Center Street and Pinckard Street. That closure for through traffic will last three to four weeks, Davis said.

“There should be plenty of signage to tell people where they can go and where they should turn to go around the road work,” Davis said, adding that any detour should only cause a delay of three to five minutes.

The project plans call for Wiregrass Construction to resurface Brundidge Street from U.S. Hwy 231 to Elm Street, reconfigure the intersection at Madison Street and widen the area between Blackmon Street and University Avenue. Sidewalks will also be added between Blackmon Street and University Avenue.

Davis said he doesn’t have a projected end date for the project, but said “hopefully everything will go smoothly.”
