TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Troy State men’s tennis was defeated 4-3 by the 55th-ranked Florida State Seminoles in the final round of the Florida State Seminole Team Tournament, Saturday.
In what has been the trend for the Trojans this season, Troy State grabbed an early 1-0 lead with wins at the Nos. 1 and 2 doubles positions. For the second time this weekend, the Trojan tandems of Willy Campos and Aman Gill, and Daniel Quincero and Jody Kane led the doubles charge for head coach Chad Hebert’s group.
After five singles matches were completed, the score was tied at three with only the No. 5 match still on court. TSU’s Matias Mosso won the first set over Jeff Scarella, 7-6, but couldn’t hold on and dropped the next two, 6-1, 6-2, giving the Seminoles the win.
Troy State falls to 4-4 on the season while FSU improves to 4-4 and 3-0 all-time against the Trojans. Troy State will hit the courts again on Tuesday, Feb. 20, when they travel to Birmingham, Ala., to face UAB for the second time this season. The Trojans upset the Blazers in the second round of the Seminole Tournament Friday night.
