A $20,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the man responsible for two sexual assaults that occurred at Hunter’s Mountain Mobile Estates on March 26.

The City of Troy had originally offered $5,000 last Wednesday and Troy University matched that amount, Monday. Hunter’s Mountain and a concerned parent have upped the number again, adding a combined $10,000.

One assault victim is a current Troy University student and one is a former student.

In addition to the attacker, University Police are also looking for an armed robber who confronted a male student on campus early Sunday morning. The man had a gun and took the victim’s cell phone and wallet.

Although the sexual assaults happened off campus, university students have expressed safety concerns to school officials after the three incidents with school ties. According to the university, officials are already implementing student-suggested ideas to increase safety on the Troy campus.

“There were many good comments and suggestions shared at the meeting, yesterday,” said Herbert Reeves, Dean of Student Services.

More than 400 students attended a Student Government Association-led Town Hall meeting Monday afternoon to talk with university officials and police officers about the recent crime in the area.

Among the improvements being made is the installation of additional lighting in some areas around campus. Some of the lighting was in place by sundown on Monday.

The Trojan Shuttle service’s night operations will now run from 7 p.m. to midnight every day of the week, instead of just weekdays. The shuttle service will run both regular routes and be available on request to students to proved an additional method of safe transportation to and from campus, Reeves said.

Additional police officers and patrols by University Police and Troy Police have also been added on campus and where students live off campus.

“We continue to stress to students, faculty and staff that while the safety and security of the campus and other areas in Troy will be enhanced, everyone needs to take this on as a personal responsibility,” Reeves said.

In the assault cases, police are looking for a black man between 40 and 50 years old who is about 6 feet tall and weighs about 250 pounds. He has a close haircut and was wearing a black or dark blue shirt and loose-fitting black or blue jeans.

In the armed robbery case, the student described the robber as a black male in his early 20s wearing a black hoodie and a scarf over his face. The suspect is about 6-feet tall and weighs about 170 pounds.
