A Troy woman is out on bond after being arrested for allegedly stealing money from nursing home residents.

On Friday, Attorney General Bill Pryor announced the arrest of Yolanda G. Maddox, 45, who was taken into custody last Thursday after surrendering to the Pike County Sheriff’s Department.

The Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Unit presented evidence to the Pike County Grand Jury on Nov. 14 resulting in an indictment charging Maddox with one count of theft of property, second degree.

Maddox allegedly stole almost $600 from residents of Pike Manor Health Care Center, where she was employed as a social services aide.

The administrator of the nursing home, where Maddox had been employed since 1990, referred the matter to the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.

The case was investigated by Elizabeth Hamilton, chief auditor of the unit and will be prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Bruce Lieberman, director of the unit.

Lieberman said the incidents allegedly occurred between March and July of this year.

If convicted of the Class C felony, Maddox could get from one to 10 years in prison and be fined up to $5,000.
