part of the holiday season?

It’s almost that most wonderful time of the year again - the holidays.

Everyone has different traditions in their family that they observe each year during the holidays. Memories made during the holidays will remain forever, and will be re-lived with laughter every year while sitting around the kitchen table, playing Scrabble after the big dinner and having just one more piece of cheesecake.

Memories of the holidays are different for everyone, but most of the time, they’re great, amd everyone has a different part of the holidays that is their favorite part.

Mary Ann Casey said that her favorite part of the holidays is spending time with her friends and family.

"My favorite part of the holidays growing up was listening to Walter Brennan’s story about the old days, Alabama’s Christmas music, spending time with family and friends and celebrating the real meaning of Christmas, the Christ child," said Casey.

Beverly Campbell also has favorite memories of family times together during the holidays.

"When the whole entire family would meet at the homestead in Needmore, all the women would be in the kitchen cooking and all the gentlemen would be outside talking and all the older kids would be in the tree shaking down pecans," said Campbell. "All the younger kids would be riding three-wheelers up and down the dirt roads. After everyone got through eating, we’d go outside in the pasture and play baseball."

Elaine McLeod is glad to have snow-free holidays in the south.

"I’m glad that I’m back in Alabama and I don’t have to have a white Christmas," said McLeod. "My favorite memory would be getting together with the whole family, and we’re very fortunate because we have five generations in our family."

Cynthia Brunson remembers special times with her father as her favorite holiday memories.

"One year when I was a child, I got a marshmallow maker for Christmas," said Brunson. "I made marshmallows with my father, and the maker had little packets of flavor-it in it and every marshmallow was a different shape and a different flavor. Sitting by the fireplace with my daddy, that was special to me."

Hassie Green remembers skating on Christmas day.

"Christmas, when I was younger, we used to do a lot of skating," said Green. "We’d get up at about 7 o’ clock and go skate, and then later eat Christmas dinner, with all the trimmings."

This year during the holidays, no matter what you end up doing or going, you will most likely make many memories, maybe even some favorite ones that will stick with you for years to come.
