Emmy Award winning journalist and Fox Business Network host John Stossel will be on the Troy University campus Friday for a lecture and book signing.

Stossel’s lecture begins at 10 a.m. in the Claudia Crosby Theater and will focus on topics discussed in his latest book, “No, They Can’t: Why Government Fails – but Individuals Succeed.”

“To have a journalist who understands free-market economics the way John Stossel does will help our students better understand the economy and how it affects us on an individual level,” said Dr. Scott Beaulier, Director of the Johnson Center.

Stossel graduated from Princeton University and began his career as a researcher for KGW-TV (NBC) in Portland, Ore. He’s also been a reporter at WCBS-TV in New York City and a consumer editor for “Good Morning America.” Stossel co-anchored ABC’s premier newsmagazine show “20/20” and contributed in-depth special reports on a variety of consumer topics.

Stossel has been honored five times for excellence in consumer reporting by the National Press Club, joined the Fox Business Network in December 2009. At Fox, he hosts “Stossel,” a weekly program highlighting current consumer issues with a libertarian viewpoint. He also appears regularly on Fox News Channel providing signature analysis.

He has been awarded the George Polk Award for Outstanding Local Reporting and the George Foster Peabody Award.

The lecture is free and open to the public. It is presented by the Manual H. Johnson Center for Political Economy and will precede the Hall School of Journalism and Communication’s M. Stanton Evans Journalism Symposium.
