After falling last week to the Alabama Christian Academy Eagles, 17-15, the Pike County Bulldogs (5-3, 4-1) look to rebound this week against Montgomery Academy (6-2, 4-1) and claim the Class 3A Region 2 championship.

A victory tonight gives the Bulldogs not only the title, but also home field advantage for the first round of the Class 3A playoffs and possibly the second.

Strangely enough, both Montgomery Academy and Pike County lost to ACA (5-3, 3-2). However, the Eagles lost two regional games to Lafayette and Lanett and must beat Dadeville tonight to make it into the playoffs.

"They’re (MA) a well coached football team," said PCH head coach Wayne Grant.

"They don’t make a lot of mistakes."

Last week Grant was ejected from the game against ACA for arguing with the officials. The second-year head coach was contesting a critical no-call, when it appeared that Pike County was on the verge of scoring a momentum-swinging touchdown, down 10-7 in the third quarter.

On third and long at the ACA 20, Bulldogs’ tailback Tyrone Boyd got behind the Eagles’ secondary and drifted back to haul in a Shanton Redmon pass at the 5-yard line. However, Boyd was tackled before the ball arrived and the official didn’t throw flag. That prompted Grant into a three or four minute "discussion" with the umpire, the end of which resulted in Grant’s ejection.

However, the loss to ACA didn’t hurt the Bulldogs in the regional standings. Even with a win last week, the region title would still have been determined tonight in Brundidge.
