A 32-14 victory over Carroll-Ozark moved Charles Henderson to a 6-1 overall record and also propelled the Trojans into the No. 9 spot of this week’s Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Class 5A poll released on Wednesday.

Should CHHS win over Andalusia and Wilcox-Central (7-1) beat Carroll this Friday night, next week’s contest between the Tigers and Trojans should be a battle of Class 5A top ten teams. Wilcox-Central comes in at No. 6 in this week’s poll.

Pike County (5-3) fell from the Class 3A poll after last Friday night’s close 17-15 loss to Alabama Christian. Despite the loss, the Bulldogs will attempt to capture the region championship this weekend against Montgomery Academy in Brundidge.

Luverne, winners of their last six games after suffering back-to-back losses to Highland Home and Goshen, takes the No. 7 spot of this week’s ASWA Class 3A poll. The Tigers have already claimed the Class 3A Region 1 championship.

Dropped out of the poll after a 20-14 loss to Class 2A No. 8 Straughn, the Goshen Eagles returned to the top ten after beating region opponent St. Jude last week 42-8. The Eagles clinched their first playoff berth since 1997 and are ranked No. 9 this week going into Friday night’s game against Highland Home.

G.W. Long, last week’s No. 2 in Class 1A, fell out of the poll after being beaten by unranked Ariton, 28-27. Courtland takes over the No. 2 spot while Brantley remains at No. 7.

With a big win over Fort Dale last weekend, Morgan Academy keeps its stranglehold on the No. 1 spot in the AISA. South Montgomery County Academy fell from No. 4 to No. 10 after losing last Thursday night to the Dixie Rebels.
