The Pike Liberal Arts School Peewee team defeated the South Montgomery County Academy Raiders by the final score of 24-0 on Monday night at Patriot Stadium.

The PLAS defense set the tone early for the game by forcing the Raiders to punt on their first two possessions of the game. Pike fumbled the ball on their first offensive series, but their next drive covered 75 yards, with Chase Avant going the final 45 on a quarterback keeper to give his team an early 6-0 lead.

The Patriots scored again in the second quarter with Avant throwing a 7-yard strike to Ryan Long over the middle. Pike led 12-0 at that point in the game.

The defense continued to play strong as Chase Rogers and Ryan Long were able to get into the SMCA backfield for several tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Avant scored again, this time on a run from 30-yards out to make the score 18-0 in favor of PLAS.

Josh Taylor shut the next Raiders’ drive down with an interception and Taylor Sunday scored on a 20-yard run to give the Patriots the 24-0 lead.

Pike used three quarterbacks, with 12 players seeing time behind the line of scrimmage. Leading rushers were Avant, Sunday, Corey Goodson, Tyler Wise, Hawkins Drinkard and Daniel Farrar.

"This was a great team win for us," said PLAS Peewee Head Coach Roy Folmar. "We were able to play everyone a lot and the kids did an excellent job of executing the plays. I know our younger players were excited to get to carry the football. The defense did a great job all night and made some big plays in the backfield. I’m proud of our overall team effort."

Pike’s next game will Saturday, Oct. 7. Patriot Stadium will play host to a Peewee Bowl. Team’s participating will be SMCA, Dixie and Lee-Scott.
